Rajinikanth's Baba was released amid much fanfare last week (December 10) on the occasion of the Superstar's birthday on December 12. Theatres wore a festive look and fans of the actor turned up in droves to celebrate the occasion. The makers had shortened the runtime by 30 minutes and had also altered the climax to suit the audiences of the current time. However, the footfalls began to recede after a few days. The latest we hear is that the filmhas made Rs 4 crore in Tamil Nadu after the re-release. The overall box office collection is likely to be around Rs 5 crore.

Baba (2002), directed by Suresh Krissna, who had earlier helmed Rajinikanth's Baasha, had the actor playing an atheist (He is actually the reincarnation of a saint, a devotee of Mahavatar Babaji). The star cast included Manisha Koirala, Sujatha, Goundamani, MN Nambiar, Vijayakumar, Sayaji Shinde to name a few. The film also had many special appearances which included Ramya Krishnan reprising her iconic character Neelambari from Padaiyappa, Nassar, Radha Ravi, Sarath Babu and Raghava Lawrence.

Raghava Lawrence, who had appeared in the song, Maya Maya, had written on his social media handle, after watching the re-release, "Hi everyone, I just watched #BabaRerelase premier show! After 20 years I experienced the same excitement as a fan! I heard almost every show is full, it’s all because of Thalaivar’s good heart and baba’s blessings! This craze never ends! Thalaivar always rocks @rajinikanth (sic)."

In the meantime, Superstar Rajinikanth celebrated his birthday by embarking on a spiritual tour. He was recently spotted in Lord Venkateshwara temple at Tirumala and later at the Ameen Peer Dargah along with music composer AR Rahman. On the work front, the actor is shooting for Nelson Dilipkumar's upcoming offering Jailer, in which he essays the role of Muthuvel Pandian. He will also be seen in a cameo in daughter Aishwarya's Lal Salaam.
