Bollywood has witnessed its fair share of remakes of late, both on the big screen as well as on OTT. Laal Singh Chaddha, Good Luck Jerry, HIT: The First Case, Cuttputlli, and even the upcoming Vikram Vedha are just a few recent examples. Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Deol, who will soon be seen sharing the screen together in Chup: Revenge of the Artist, recently gave their two cents about the phenomenon of remakes.
During a promotional event for Sita Ramam, as reported by The Indian Express, Dulquer was asked whether he would like to see the film being remade in Hindi. The actor responded by saying that he did not think that Sita Ramam was a film that could be remade. He said that, as an actor, he felt that it was not wise to do a remake or sequel of a ‘classic’ film.
Dulquer said that he had done films across four languages, and after having done more than 35 films, he knew how difficult it was to find something like Sita Ramam. “Just because it is loved and done so well, you can’t milk it. It is like the golden egg story. You can’t kill the goose”, he added.
Sunny also seemed to echo Dulquer’s thoughts. In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla while promoting Chup, Sunny spoke of how audiences always wanted something new and original. He said that he was ‘fed up’ of doing remakes. He said that he preferred to do something fresh which helped him discover what it will turn out to be. “Most of the time when we do remakes, they turn out very messy because the film which was remade had a soul and everything, and somehow we miss that”, he added.
In addition to Dulquer and Sunny, Chup: Revenge of the Artist, also features Pooja Bhatt, and Shreya Dhanwanthary in prominent roles. The film was directed by R Balki.
