The trailer of Karthi's spy thriller Sardar was released recently. Karthi features in a dual role in the film, one as a publicity-seeking police officer and the other as a spy, who is said to be an ex-RAW agent. While the police officer character seems to have reminded many of his character in Siruthai, the actor had to undergo some physical transformation for the second role. The trailer has hit million views and is counting.

In the meantime, Suriya, who watched the trailer of Sardar, is all praise for the same. Calling it mighty impressive, Suriya wrote on his social media handle, "What a mighty impressive trailer! The strong content speaks for itself..! http://youtu.be/8OQzz_i3KFE Hearty wishes to the Team! (sic)" It is to be noted that Suriya had released the teaser of the film, a day ahead of Karthi's Ponniyin Selvan's release.

Karthi is also presenting the film, directed by PS Mithran. The leading ladies include Raashi Khanna, Rajisha Vijayana and Laila, thus marking her comeback in the industry after 16 long years. The film also marks the debut of actor Chunky Pandey. The rest of the star cast includes Murali Sharma, Myna Nandini, Munishkanth, Ilavarasu, Yugi Sethu, Avinash, Mohammad Ali Baig to name a few.

Music for the film is by GV Prakash Kumar and Karthi has also sung a song in the film. While the cinematography is by George C Williams, editing is by Ruben. The team is currently on a promotional tour in Kerala. Sardar is slated to hit screens on October 21 as a Diwali special. It will clash with Sivakarthikeyan's romantic comedy Prince which will also release on the same day. Sardar is Karthi's third release of the year. He was earlier seen in Muthaiya's rural entertainer Viruman and Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan in which played the spy and commander of Chola Army, Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan.
