Calling all Mortal Kombat fans! If you’ve already played the games and watched the movies from the franchise multiple times, we’re here to tell you that BookMyShow will begin streaming the 2021 remake from June 4. Mortal Kombat, directed by Simon McQuoid, is also expected to join the catalogues of Hungama Play, YouTube Movies, Apple TV and Google Play Movies. BookMyShow will offer fans the option to either pre-order, rent or purchase the film on its video-on-demand platform.
The film, praised for aligning with the original video games and featuring exciting action sequences, was earlier released theatrically only in selected states of India due to the pandemic. Seven weeks after its theatrical release, Mortal Kombat is coming to digital platforms in order to cater to fans who were unable to watch it in theatres.
The plot of Mortal Kombat follows MMA fighter Cole Young who finds safety at the temple of Lord Raiden after being targeted by Sub-Zero. Here, Kung Lao and Kano teach Cole the ways of warriors to aid him in fighting Sub-Zero. The film stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
This addition to the Mortal Kombat franchise has come almost two decades after the critical and commercial failure of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation in 1997. Finally, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema began working on a new Mortal Kombat movie in late 2010 and the product of this was the new film crossing over $79 million globally.
Mortal Kombat can be streamed on BookMyShow from June 4. Users can pre-order the film, rent it at Rs. 499 or buy it for Rs. 799 on the app.
