Pa Ranjith's upcoming production Bommai Nayagi has got a release date. The film, which is said to be a social emotional drama, revolving around the relationship between a father and daughter, is all set to hit screens on February 3. Bommai Nayagi stars Yogi Babu in the lead and has child artiste Srimathi playing her daughter. The film is directed by debutant Shan. Majority of the portions have been shot in the Cuddalore region.

Taking to his social media handle, Pa Ranjith dropped a new poster from the film, which has Yogi Babu and his onscreen daughter sitting far away from temple and staring elsewhere. He captioned it, "Let the warmth of this harvest festival fill your home and heart with joy and prosperity May everything you touch be successful! #BommaiNayagi #BommaiNayagiFromFeb3 (sic)."

This is likely to be the first time that Yogi Babu will dive into a completely serious role. He had done a serious character in Madonne Ashwin's National Award winning film Mandela as well, but it had comedy portions as well. Bommai Nayagi has music by Sundaramurthy. The rest of the star cast includes Subhatra and Hari Krishnan. Bommai Nayagi is bankrolled by Ranjith's Neelam Productions and Yaazhi Films.

Yogi Babu was last seen in the Pongal release Varisu, in which he played Kicha, the cook in Vijay's family household. His combination scenes with the Thalapathy were a laugh riot and Vijay had stated during the film's audio launch, too, that today, one cannot think of making a film without considering Yogi Babu. The film, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, was bankrolled by Dil Raju. It took on Ajith's action entertainer Thunivu, helmed by H Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor.

Yogi Babu has a series of projects lined up, which includes Sathuranga Vettai 2, Andhagan, Ayalaan, Kasethan Kadavulada and Jailer.
