Another star kid is getting ready to test his fate in Telugu films. Ashok Galla, nephew of actor Mahesh Babu and grandson to veteran star Krishna, is making his acting debut with Hero, a full-on entertainer written and directed by Sriram Adittya T. Niddhi Agerwal plays the female lead in the film that also features Jagapathi Babu, Naresh, Satya and Archana Soundarya in key roles. A rap song from the film, Donal Daggu, lyricised and sung by Roll Rida and Gold Deveraj, was launched today.
The song, shot in a colony in Hyderabad, has a celebratory vibe to it and is filled with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Donal Daggu is a spirited tribute to the iconic stars in the film world and other popular figures, including Rajinikanth, Venkatesh, Balakrishna, Che Guevera and Micheal Jackson. The residents of the colony join in welcoming Ashok Galla (in a cowboy look) and the song is full of references discussing the legacy of iconic personalities.
If there's one thing that the number makes it obvious, it's the fact that Ashok Galla is a natural with his dance moves. His uninhibited spirit and infectious enthusiasm go a long way in enhancing the appeal of the number. Musically too, Donal Daggu is instantly catchy and Roll Rida, as always, has terrific understanding of rhythm, interspersing the lines with several interesting pop-cultural references and local lingo. Ghibran proves his conistency as a composer yet again.
Sameer Reddy and Richard Prasad are the cinematographers of Hero, while Chandra Sekhar Ravipati is the executive producer. Padmavathi Galla has bankrolled the film under Amara Raja Media & Entertainment. Kalyan Shankar and A. R. Tagore have penned the dialogues with Prawin Pudi handling the edits. Hero will hit theatres on January 15.
