Actor Ashwin Babu, who shot to fame with the three parts of the Raju Gari Gadhi horror comedy franchise and films like Jatha Kalise, Genius, is back in the news for a new project. His next is an out and out mass entertainer, Hidimbha, where he pairs up alongside Nandita Swetha. Subhalekha Sudhakar too plays a key role in the film, conceived and directed by Aneel Kanneganti. Gangapatnam Sridhar is bankrolling it under SVK Cinemas.
An action-packed first glimpse of Hidimbha was launched by the team the previous weekend. The glimpse starts with an elderly politician asking, ‘Kalabandalo police operation aa?’ Ashwin Babu soon appears in a bulked-up avatar; he’s a one-man army of sorts, where he’s whacking one henchman after the other in a narrow street. The slick sequence suggests enough that Hidimbha is going to be an action spectacle, while we also see Nandita Swetha in a few frames.
For the first time in his career, Ashwin will be donning the khaki outfit. It’s evident that Hidimbha marks his entry into the mainstream space in contrast to his earlier films that have been either dramas or comedies. The action sequence in the film is clearly inspired by Allu Arjun’s Sarrainodu and the cinematography, action choreography have influences from KGF: Chapter 2 as well. Rajasekar B cranks the camera for Hidimbha, which has music by Vikas Badisa.
This will also be Nandita Swetha’s first Telugu release in 2022; she was last seen in Akshara and the Sumanth starrer Kapatadhaari the previous year. The producer of Hidimbha, Gangapatnam Sridhar had earlier bankrolled Idam Jagath and Kiraak.
