Hit, the crime drama starring Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma in the lead, was a critically acclaimed film that not only performed well at the theatres but also was extensively watched by spectators during the first lockdown. The film, which is currently being remade with Rajjkumar Rao and Sanya Malhotra in Hindi, has a sequel coming up too. Starring Adivi Sesh and Meenkashii Chaudhary in the lead, Hit 2 went on floors earlier in 2021 and will hit theatres on July 29, the makers announced today.
Sailesh Kolanu, who also directed Hit, has written and helmed Hit 2. Actor Nani and Prashanti Tipirneni are jointly producing the film under Wall Poster Cinema. Tweeting the news about the release date announcement, the production house's handle read, "The stakes get bigger this time 馃敟 Join KD, the cool cop, on his toughest case yet as the drama unfolds on the big screens from July 29. #HIT2OnJuly29 #HIT2."
Hit 2 has an impressive technical team. While veteran cinematographer S Manikandan has cranked the camera for the same, the film is edited by Garry BH (who's also turning a director with Nikhil Siddhartha's next). John Steward Eduri, a popular name in Hindi cinema associated with the music of Dhoom, Salaam Namaste, Ra.One, in the past, has been roped in as a composer. S Venkataratnam is the executive producer.
For the uninitiated, the film's prequel Hit revolved around a cop, who in the homicide intervention team, has to move past and come to terms with the wounds of his past, while investigating an incident involving a missing woman. Hit also starred Brahmaji, Hari Teja, Bhanu Chander, Kalpika Ganesh in key roles. The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Wall Poster Cinema's other film set to release this year is titled Meet Cute, that marks the directorial debut of Deepthi Ghanta, actor Nani's sister.
