Telugu star Nani, of Eega and Jersey fame, among others, was in Bengaluru on April 28 and 29 as part of the last leg of promotions of his next release, HIT 3, which will be in theatres on May 1. The film is not getting a solo release in the state, what with other biggies like Suriya’s Retro and Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 also in theatres on the same date. It is, however, the only film that’s making an effort to connect with local audiences with a Kannada-dubbed version in theatres, along with the Telugu original. Retro, on the other hand, is releasing in Tamil and Telugu only in Karnataka.
Nani has, for a while, been determined about releasing his films with at least 5 language options, even if he isn’t necessarily dubbing in anything other than the Telugu version. But given that actors like Ram Charan and Jr NTR have, in the past, dubbed in Kannada, the question that Nani faced is why he doesn’t put in the same effort. Addressing the media in Bengaluru, Nani said that his team has cracked the technology to ensure that in every language that the film releases, it sounds like his voice only.
“We’ve cracked a way with high-end technology. What you hear in the trailer, is my voice only. So, now I have a feeling that all the fans from here are getting to hear my voice and, in my heart, I am confident that it is sounding right, and that the pronunciations are perfect. If I had dubbed, I would have had nightmares on the release day, wondering if my Kannada is sounding terrible,” said Nani.
HIT 3, directed by Sailesh Kolanu, who helmed the earlier two films too, pairs Nani with KGF fame Srinidhi Shetty, who was last seen in Vikram’s Cobra . She has dubbed for herself in the Kannada version. The film has been certified A, owing to its violent content, but the team maintains that gore and bloodshed is only a portion of the narrative and that there is a lot more at play.
