Rajkummar Rao starrer HIT - The First Case is inching closer to its release this week. The upcoming Hindi remake will see Sailesh Kolanu in the director’s chair. The filmmaker had also helmed the original 2020 Telugu film, which starred Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma. The director recently opened up about why he chose to cast Rao as the lead in the remake.

In conversation with IANS, Kolanu revealed that Rao was his first choice to play the protagonist, Vikram, in the film’s Hindi remake. The film revolves around the story of Vikram, a police officer with PTSD, who is tasked with solving the case of a missing woman. The director said that Vikram was a character who was a very ‘intense’ person, with a lot of emotional baggage. He was someone who spoke very less and always to the point. So Kolanu wanted an actor who would be able to communicate a lot to the audiences without saying much in words.

The director said he was in search of an actor whose eyes would be able to convey the character’s emotions, and Rao fitted the bill. Kolanu revealed that he had been following the actor’s work for quite a while now and had been impressed with the way Rao could get into the skin of the characters he essays. “He was the only person on my wish list and I am glad we got him on board", siad Kolanu.

HIT - The First Case, which also stars Sanya Malhotra, can be caught on the big screen on July 15. The film was bankrolled under the banners of Dil Raju Production and T-Series.

A standalone sequel to the Telugu film is also awaiting release, titled HIT: The Second Case. The film stars Adivi Sesh, Meenakshi Chaudhary and Bhanu Chander in lead roles and is slated for release on July 29.
