There is magic in the air, the time of the year that brings everyone together spreading joy, cheer, and merry. There are Hollywood movies based on Christmas themes that will brighten up the festive moods for you.

It's a wonderful life

A 1946 greatest classic American Christmas fantasy movie that stars James Stewart as George Bailey and Henry Travers as Clarence in lead roles. A joyous tale of beautifully picturized heaven, hope, and humanity, revolves around the story of a frustrated businessman George who encounters a guardian angel, Clarence, during the Christmas season, who shows him what life would be if he never existed.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

A 2000 American Fantasy dramedy movie narrated by Anthony Hopkins stars Jim Carrey as the Grinch, a mean-spirited green creature. The story set during Christmas eve depicts how Grinch tries his best to spoil the Christmas occasion by stealing gifts and decorations from a nearby town. However, he experiences events that make him realize Christmas is just not about money and gifts, but much more.

Home Alone

An American Christmas comedy franchise consisting of six movies. However, the first two movies that were released in 1990 and 1992, are based on the fictional character Kevin McCallister played by Macaulay Culkin. The stories are all about an 8-year-old Kevin who is accidentally left behind ‘home alone’ on Christmas eve and must fend off burglars during the holiday season. He must use all his wit and presence of mind to thwart their attempts.

Die Hard

A 1988 American action film is based on the novel Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. The movie stars Bruce Willis as John McClane, Bonnie Bedelia as Holly McClane, and Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber. The fictional story is set at Christmas time, where New York policeman John plans to meet his estranged wife Holly and his two children in the bustling Nakatomi Plaza, on the eve. The festive look transforms into a nightmare when a group of terrorists attack the premises. John is the only one who can save his family and the other hostages.

The Holiday

A 2006 American rom-com film that has been called a modern Christmas classic. The film stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz in lead roles, with Jude Law and Jack Black in supporting roles. A tale of two troubled and lonely women who meet virtually through a home swap website and decide to switch places in each other’s homes. This exchange helps them meet the love of their lives. The story culminates in a happy ending on Christmas eve.

A Christmas Carol

A 2009 American computer-animated dark fantasy movie is based on Charles Dickens’ novel by the same name. The movie was a 3-D worldwide release and was produced with the process of motion capture technique. The film stars Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman in lead roles. The story is an animated reiteration of the character Ebenezer Scrooge of Dickens’s novel. Scrooge, an old miser, is visited by the ghost of his former business partner and three other spirits who transform him into a kind gentleman.

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas

A 2011 American buddy stoner comedy movie starring John Cho as Harold and Kal Penn as Kumar in lead roles, with Neil Patrick Harris in a supporting role as a fictionalized version of himself. A movie that was all set to kick off its humor achieved outstanding commercial success. The plot follows two grown apart stoner friends who reunite after six years unexpectedly because of a parcel. Unforeseen events of burning up an eight-year-old tall Christmas tree causes them to storm through New York City and think on their feet to replace the burnt tree.
