Two recent Hollywood films are dominating the Indian box office, which is unusual save during pandemics or when big Indian films aren't playing. This week, moviegoers can't get enough of Jurassic World Rebirth and F1, both of which have been doing quite well, especially in premium formats like IMAX.
Jurassic World Rebirth has the best opening weekend for the franchise so far, earning Rs. 9.25 crore nett (without paid previews). The opening weekend of the 2022 installment of the same series earned Rs. 8.25 crore, nett, in contrast. But that number was inflated because of paid previews, which brought in an additional Rs. 3.50 crore nett. With those previews included, the 2022 film's weekend total reached Rs. 36 crore nett, a figure that Jurassic World Rebirth now has an opportunity to beat.
Starting in 1994 with a record-breaking run in India, the franchise never quite lived up to its initial enthusiasm with the following installments. Regardless, the entire "Jurassic World" franchise has done rather well in India, and the most recent installment is no exception.
The second week of F1 has been quite uneventful. With Rs. 3.25 crore nett earned on its second Friday, the film's total earnings reached Rs. 37.75 crore nett. Nearly 90% of its eighth-day business came from multiplexes, mainly driven by IMAX screenings. It has found enormous success in national chains.
The day-wise breakdown of the F1 box office performance is as follows:
Paid Previews: Rs. 25 lakh approx.
Friday: Rs. 5.25 crore approx.
Saturday: Rs. 7.25 crore approx.
Sunday: Rs. 8 crore approx.
Monday: Rs. 3.25 crore approx.
Tuesday: Rs. 3.50 crore approx.
Wednesday: Rs. 3.50 crore approx.
Thursday: Rs. 3.50 crore approx.
Week One Total: Rs. 34.50 crore approx.
Second Friday: Rs. 3.25 crore approx.
Grand Total: Rs. 37.75 crore approx.
In spite of competition from Superman, which is expected to dominate most IMAX screens during its opening weekend, F1 is anticipated to have a solid second week, earning around Rs. 20 crore nett. If the film returns to IMAX theatres the following week, it will be able to keep its momentum going. Experts predict that the film will be a smashing success in India, with final receipts of Rs. 70–75 crore nett, confirming its status as a box office smash.
Hollywood has virtually claimed the lead at the Indian box office, which is not commonly seen when local films are involved, thanks to Jurassic World Rebirth and F1, respectively. Jurassic World Rebirth is likely to increase over the weekend, while F1 continues its steady march.
