Real Star Upendra’s much-delayed film Home Minister is finally ready for release. The film, directed by Sujay Srihari, which pairs Upendra with Vedhika, will hit theatres on April 1, in the run-up to which, the team recently released the trailer. While the recent lyrical video of the Home Minister title track gave an indication that the film has nothing political about it, the trailer puts all speculation to rest.
Turns out, Upendra plays a happy home maker in the film, while his wife, played by Vedhika, is the bread-winner. For Upendra’s character, it is not only about running his home, but doing all things a regular ‘housewife’ would, including socializing with the neighbourhood homemakers, watching TV serials and so on and so forth. Years of having her husband take care of the home and his friendship with his lady kitty-party gang, doesn’t sit well with Vedhika’s character. Why is Upendra playing a home maker? This forms the crux of the story, which also has a thriller element.
Produced by Sreeyas Chitra and Watercolor Entertainment, Home Minister brings popular music composer Ghibran to Kannada cinema. The film brings Vedhika back to Sandalwood after the 2017 Gowdru Hotel (the remake of the Malayalam hit, Ustad Hotel). Also on board the cast are Tanya Hope, Suman Ranganathan, Tilak and Abhimanyu Singh, among others.
Upendra, who is currently shooting for the magnum opus Kabzaa, in which he plays an underworld don, also has films like Buddhivanta 2, Trishulam and Lagaam up for release. He is also set to be seen in a pivotal role in the Telugu film Ghani, starring Varun Tej.
