Honey Singh's latest song Maniac has landed in controversy. A PIL is filed against this song for being 'vulgar' and 'explicit.' Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra has pursued the matter in court. Interestingly, this happens in the midst of India's Got Latent case hearing. Here's everything you need to know about Honey Singh's Maniac song case so far...
Patna High Court's Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar has asked the Central Government to clarify their stand in the matter of Yo Yo Honey Singh's latest song, Maniac. The hearing was carried out on Friday, March 7.
In her PIL, Neetu Chandra has mentioned how vulgar and explicit songs are often used in Bollywood. She has particularly pointed out how Maniac depicts women in a vulgar light. The petition also pointed out how abusive words are openly used against women in such songs, in particular with Bhojpuri songs. The PIL notes that women are portrayed as objects for consumption and are seen as s** symbols, particularly through Bhojpuri language. "It affects children, women and all sections of society," the PIL noted. Apart from Honey Singh, lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi worked on the song, Maniac.
Currently, there are no restrictions on vulgar and double meaning songs. The plea calls for legal action against violators and for rules to be enforced strictly.
The next hearing for the Maniac song case is on March 28. The Central Government is expected to have their stance clear in the matter by the time.
Co-incidentally, the Honey Singh case comes amid the ongoing India's Got Latent case. The Central Government has taken prompt action against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina and other guests present on India's Got Latent, after Ranveer Allahbadia passed the comment. He has asked, "If you wake up to your parents having s**, would you pretend not to see them and go back to sleep or join them and stop it forever?" This question was originally asked by a Hollywood comedian, but given how it 'disregarded the Indian culture,' Allahbadia and Raina, among others, have been called to court, with the Central Government trying to impose strict action on the influencers. Although Allahbadia has been allowed to continue his podcasts with a warning of not using vulgar content, Raina had to pull down all content from India's Got Latent and make rounds of the court to justify his actions.
