At a time when a majority of Kannada filmmakers are struggling to find takers for their films for TV and digital rights, the team of the upcoming campus comedy Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare have struck gold. With days to go for the film’s theatrical outing, they have managed to sell the satellite and digital rights prior to the release. Pre-release business on post-theatrical rights has seen a sharp decline in recent times, what with platforms tightening their purse strings for Kannada content. Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare, though, has managed to strike a deal.
The film, which is coming to theatres on July 21, is being presented by Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studio and the latest we’ve heard is that the digital and satellite streaming rights have been picked up by Zee Network. The finer details of the deal are not known yet, so a streaming date will happen only later.
Speaking at the film’s trailer launch recently, Rakshit listed the reasons he thought the film, directed by debutant Nithin Krishnamurthy, deserved a push from his banner. “I have already seen the film twice and I enjoyed it equally each time I did. In fact, before the film’s release, I want to watch it once more, because there are a lot things that I liked about it. Cinematographer Aravind Kashyap is one of the main reasons that I saw Hotel Hudugaru Bekagiddare, because back when I was still shooting for 777 Charlie, he’d meet me and show me visuals from the film. I was quite intrigued and impressed by the way they have shot it, because I’d seen such technical aspects only in Hollywood movies earlier,” Rakshit had said, adding that although there are some dialogues that may come across as naughty, Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare is still a film meant for family viewing.
