When Kannada actress Ramya shot for a promotional video of the upcoming film Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare, there was a lot of buzz surrounding it. However, when the team of the film then used said footage in the trailer it didn’t sit well with her. Ramya then went ahead and sought legal recourse to get the film team to remove all footage featuring her from the trailer and film and got an injunction on the use of the same, which, in turn, almost derailed the July 21 release plans.
Ramya’s contention was that the team had used video clips of her without authorization, and that what they had done constituted violation of the Artiste Agreement she had with them, among others. She had also sought Rs 1 crore in damages for the same. When her legal team then circulated details of the injunction order that she’d procured ex-parte, it was initially thought that it may be a part of the innovative promotional activities the team had come up with. But it soon became clear that Ramya meant business and that the team had to fight it legally. At one point, it also seemed likely that the July 21 release would not happen. In fact, the team had to even cancel a celebrity premiere show meant to take place on July 20. However, in what has come as a major relief for the makers, Ramya’s plea has been vacated, clearing the decks for Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’s date with audiences. Online advance bookings are back on track currently.
Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare is a campus comedy following events that unfold at a boys hostel. The film features a bunch of newbie talent and has been captured by cinematographer Aravind Kashyap (of Kantara fame). Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios is presenting the film in theatres.
