Hostiles plot overview

Set in the year 1892, the movie follows the story of the US Army officer, who has been ordered to escort a Cheyenne war thief and his family back to their homeland in Montana. This is a difficult and dangerous journey across the American West. The movie explores themes of conflict, war, forgiveness, the aftermath of war, and the condition of humans from it.

Joseph, a captain in the US Army, has been fighting against the Cheyenne people for over two decades. But now things have changed. The Cheyenne leader has gotten sick, and Joseph has been ordered to take him to a safe place. It's a strange turn of events, and Joseph must protect the leader at any cost.

Christian Bale’s experience working on Hostiles

Back in 2017, the lead actor Christian Bale had an exclusive chat with Collider, where he shared his experience working with his co-stars and on such a unique narrative. Bale shared that he and the director Scott Cooper have enjoyed the challenges while shooting in New Mexico during the most intense heat weather. They had to were woolen uniforms, and after they wrapped up the shooting, all the crew members looked skinner due to tremendous sweating daily.

“But I think ultimately, not only did it enhance a sense of unity between ourselves, the crew, everybody involved, and that is so essential on a film. It's horrible when you don't get that sense of unity and there's this lack of belief in what is being made by some people, so there was a wonderful sense of unity”, Christian told Collider.
