Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon’s first official images were released by the makers on their social media handles on May 5.

Three photos of the fantasy series, which began production last week, offered a glimpse into the character from the show. While one featured Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, the other two Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, and Steve Toussaint as The Sea Snake of House of the Dragon, respectively.

On April 26, the makers had revealed the entire cast line-up, with an announcement on their official handle. “Fire will reign… The @HBO original series #HouseoftheDragon is officially in production. Coming soon to @HBOMax in 2022,” read the tweet, along with a photo of a script reading session.

The prequel is based on George R R Martin’s novel, Fire & Blood. Martin is also the creator of the series, which focuses on the rise and fall of House Targaryen and will be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon’s first season, which will premiere in 2022, will have 10 episodes.

In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, wished everyone good luck. “It’s just inevitable. I wish you all the best, it’s going to be whatever it will be, but of course, they are doing more,” she said, adding that she is confident that the prequel series will be a huge success.
