Peter Dinklage became one of the most recognised actors with his stellar performance as Tyrion Lannister in the hit show Game of Thrones. The star has now commented on House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spin-off show in the works.
“I think the trick is not to try to recreate Thrones. If you try to recreate it, that feels like a money grab. With a lot of sequels, the reason for them is that the first one made a lot of money, which is why they aren’t as strong.” said Dinklage, in a recent interview with The Independent.
The actor also added that regardless, he is excited to watch House of the Dragon purely as a viewer and not knowing what will happen next.
House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood, and is set hundreds of years before the events and characters of Game of Thrones and focuses on the mighty House Targaryen. The show will start with King Viserys Targaryen sitting on the throne.
A number of Game of Thrones stars have commented on the upcoming show, including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Dinklage’s on screen brother, Jaime Lannister. Coster-Waldau also said the show must try to stand on its own back in October.
Dinklage left a big impression on the world with the show, becoming a fan favourite character from the water cooler TV show. The star’s portrayal of the quick-witted Tyrion also won him many accolades, including four Emmy awards.
Starring Paddy Considin, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith and Rhys Ifans, the show is slated for a late 2022 release.
