It seems like an eventful end of the month that has given us a whole lot to digest. Of course, it includes Robert Downey Jr. being announced as Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the very next day came with the penultimate episode of House of the Dragon Season 2. There is so much anticipation around what will now happen in Westeros because the world now stands on very delicate ground. There is a civil war that is on the verge of boiling over while a family is pitched against each other. The episode that aired today on Max, and on JioCinema in India, has turned out to be a monster on its own because it ended with a frame that might be the most badass of the season. That climax has set up so much that the finale will have to live up to the hype it has created.
This morning, we witnessed the seventh episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, which grapples with Rhaenyra's helplessness as she tries to have one odd on her side so she can have a hold over the war. But who knew that she would certainly become the strongest in the war? Episode seven established a strong ground for every single character. For Daemon, it is do or die now because he needs people by his side. For Aemond, it is not just Rhaenyra that he is scared of but also Aegon being alive. Removing Alicent from the small council gave him an upper hand, but for how long? Rhaenyra is busy figuring out how she will win her crown. Alicent is busy on a vacation where she is possibly looking for something.
The last act of episode 7 of House of the Dragon begins on a very crucial note where the dragons are now to choose their riders amongst the bastards from the Small Folk. Soon, Vermithor is summoned, and he comes in the most visually rich way any dragon has entered the show in a very long time. Just when one of the Small Folk thinks he can control him, Vermithor spits fire, grilling him and many around him. The rest of them run inside the dragon keep, and this could be the first time we have entered the space where dragons live inside Dragonstone. They run to save their lives as Vermithor goes on burning and eating them, until Hugh Hammer decides he will face him directly. He enters the pit to save a woman and screams at Vermithor, who instantly recognizes his roots and forms a bond with him.

Ulf, who claims to be Baelon Targaryen’s bastard son, meanwhile runs deep into the dragon keep to save himself from Vermithor. He runs so deep without even realizing that Dragonstone has no dearth of dragons and that the keep is not limited to only Vermithor. He stumbles upon a puddle, which actually is where Silverwing has laid her eggs, and the cracking sound wakes her up only for us to realize she was right behind Ulf. She is angry as she charges at him, but wait, she took even less time and body count than Vermithor to take Ulf as her rider.
Back in the Red Keep where Aemond is with his really small council, they are discussing the preparations for war. There is only sad news but just one good piece, which is that his brother Daeron, who has been mentioned throughout the season and is in Old Town, has a dragon named Tessarion, and the dragon has just taken to wing. This means we will meet Daeron in season three, considering he is a rider, grown up, and also has a dragon who can now finally fly.
But that meeting is certainly disturbed by the chaos on the streets as people say a dragon is flying in the sky, and they run to take cover. Aemond, who thinks it's Vhagar, is soon alarmed that it is not her. He runs to the window to see Silverwing flying rogue in the skies of King's Landing with Ulf on her back. Aemond sees this as an opportunity to take her down and runs to the horse that takes him to Vhagar. One flap and they are in the sky following Silverwing, who is flying towards Dragonstone. But as the skies clear up and Aemond gets a clear vision of what is on the ground, he is scared for his life and orders Vhagar to flee and turn around. He sees Rhaenyra standing with Vermithor, Syrax, and Silverwing, all ready to charge.
This changes the game entirely. House Green, who had three dragons, including the biggest in the world, Vhagar, now has one active dragon only. Dreamfyre has not appeared for a while. We don't know what happened to Sunfyre yet, but he is severely injured and wingless even if he is alive. The Blacks, however, had all young dragons after Meleys’ death and Daemon taking away Caraxes. But now there is Vermithor with Hugh riding him, Ulf on Silverwing, Addam of Hull on Sea Smoke, Baela on Moondancer, Jacaerys on Vermax, and Rhaenyra on Syrax. At some point, Daemon is also likely to join the Blacks, which adds Caraxes to the league. This means the Blacks have seven dragons as opposed to the Greens’ two.

House of the Dragon Season 2 finale will air on JioCinema next Monday. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
