Hrithik Roshan’s sister Sunaina opens up on her battle with alcoholism and 28 days in a scary rehab: ‘It was worse than normal rehab’

The Roshan family has been one of the most prominent film families in India. While Hrithik Roshan, his father Rakesh Roshan, and his uncle Rajesh Roshan frequently make headlines, another member of the family, Sunaina Roshan, often remains away from the limelight. However, she has been an integral part of the family and has even worked as a producer on a couple of films.

Now, Sunaina has opened up about her battle with alcoholism and how her time in rehab was one of the toughest phases of her life. In a candid interview, she revealed how she was "grilled" by counselors as part of her therapy. Read on to know more about her journey to recovery.

Sunaina Roshan on Her Battle with Alcoholism

In her latest interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sunaina Roshan spoke about her struggles with alcoholism when her drinking reached a toxic level, forcing her to seek sobriety. She recalled how she was emotionally vulnerable and described her alcohol dependence as the worst time of her life. She shared how she often fell off beds and injured herself. She also revealed that her family had to take away all her credit cards and denied her access to money during this period. "It was tough. Alcoholism is when you don’t have control over your drinking. I was going through a very difficult time. I was emotionally vulnerable, and to numb my emotions, I started drinking. I think it was the worst phase of my life. I had fallen off beds and injured myself. It’s a very vicious cycle to be in. For a couple of months, I wasn’t given any money, my credit cards were taken away, and it was a very unpleasant situation for me to be in," she shared.

Sunaina Roshan on Her Rehab Experience

Sunaina further spoke about her experience in rehab, describing it as a one-of-a-kind facility. She recalled how she sat her parents down and asked them to find a good rehabilitation center for her so she could recover and return to a normal life. However, even before her family could find one, she took the initiative and enrolled herself in a rehab center. But what followed was a grueling 28-day experience that tested her resilience.

"It’s a 28-day course, and it’s not like a normal rehab. Basically, any kind of addiction is treated there. It was a 28-day program where 5-6 counselors were grilling you. It was worse than a normal rehab. I don’t know what a normal rehab is like, but this was in one room, for 89 hours. They were just grilling you," she revealed. She also mentioned that during her treatment, she had no access to her phone and was not allowed to have addictive items such as sugar and perfume.
