Ryan Reynolds took the internet by storm when he dropped a huge update about his upcoming film, Deadpool 3. Keeping in line with his witty way of doing things, the actor shared a hilarious video which talked about how hard the makers were working on the upcoming Deadpool film, but that his long hours of soul searching did not come up with anything good. In the end, a deadpan Reynolds unveiled that they in fact did have a surprise in store for viewers, casually asking Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine in the film, which was met with a “Yeah, sure Ryan”, from the latter.

Although Reynolds and Jackman seemed less than enthused in the clip, the reactions from fans told a different story. To say that fans were excited to see the two reunite on screen yet again, after their unfortunate team up in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, would be an understatement.

Emotions ran high as fans could not keep calm to see Jackman take up the mantle of the iconic character yet again, especially since many were under the impression that 2017’s Logan marked Jackman’s last stint as Wolverine. Many users took to memes to express just how thrilled they were at the news.

Wolverine had made a small appearance in the post credits scene of Deadpool 2, where the cheeky superhero travelled back in time to the era of X-Men Origins: Wolverine to ‘take care’ of Reynold’s first stint as Wade Wilson. Some fans also used the news to remind people of this gem of a scene as well.

Some expressed their hope to see Jackman don the comic book accurate yellow superhero suit in the upcoming instalment in the Deadpool franchise.

The news made some fans recall another ambitious and much loved crossover in the MCU, where Tobey Maguire had made a dashing entry into the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Some fans even expressed their desire to see Jackman’s Wolverine and Maguire’s Spider-Man share the screen in a future MCU project.

Deadpool 3, directed by Shawn Levy, is slated to release on September 6, 2024.
