Hum Do Hamare Do preview: Rajkummar Rao ‘adopts’ parents and a pet to get married

Films about adopted children are fairly common; but have you ever come across a film where a guy ‘adopts’ his parents? It’s safe to say the trailer of Abhishek Jain’s Hum Do Hamare Do ought to take audiences on a surprise ride. The new trailer has already created considerable buzz.

What's Hum Do Hamare Do about?

The film is about a couple, played by Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon, who are all set to marry and start a family together. But, Kriti’s character puts forth a condition - she will only marry a guy who has a sweet family and a pet dog. Unfortunately, Rajkummar’s character has neither, and that’s where the fun begins. He adopts (or hires) two septuagenarians as his parents, with their own love story going off-road for some odd reason. Needless to say, they don’t share the same surname and are ridiculously unprepared to play their parts. What follows is a comedy of errors.

What was the idea behind the fim?

Abhishek Jain is a director and actor who has predominantly worked in the Marathi film industry prior to this project. His Kevi Rite Jaish and Bey Yaar were well-loved by audiences. In an interview with RadioCity , he explained that a family unit does not always consist of people with blood-relations. More often than not, people we meet at work become a part of our family. He contextualizes this idea of familial bonds in an era of displacement within a narrative space of Hum Do Hamare Do.

Who will star in Hum Do Hamare Do?

Rajkumar Rao and Kriti Sanon will play the lead roles of the two love-birds. Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah play the bridegroom's fake parents. Hum Do Hamare Do also stars Manu Rishi Chadha and Prachee Shah Paandya.

Fans would be delighted to see Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao pairing up again after Bareilly Ki Barfi (2018). From what it seems from the trailer, Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah’s parallel love-story-in-retrospect will also be a treat to watch.
