The nepotism in Bollywood debate began after Kangana Ranaut commented on it on filmmaker Karan Johar’s talk show, Koffee with Karan in 2017. Critics soon started blaming star kids or their alleged godfathers for preventing the entry of outsiders into the film industry. Kritika Kamra, an actress with no filmy background who began her career as a television actress recently opened up about nepotism.

In a recent interview, Kritika said that nepotism is prevalent in Bollywood, just like in any other industry. Kritika has been in the entertainment industry for over a decade and claims that she has had her own share of ups and downs. The Hush Hush fame actress further revealed that she is aware of the presence of nepotism around her, but has not suffered because of it.

Stating that nepotism is real, Kritika said that she has seen opportunities go elsewhere. She added that makers sometimes cast people who they have a soft corner for and feel comfortable with.

Kritika made her film debut with the Nitin Kakkar-directed 2018 movie Mitron, and later transitioned to web series on OTT after the pandemic. She made her OTT debut with the Amazon Prime Video show Tandav last year. The actress received critical acclaim for her role in Amazon Prime Video’s Hush Hush, and will be seen next in Sumit Purohit’s directorial, For Your Eyes Only, alongside Pratik Gandhi, which is slated to stream exclusively on Netflix.
