Adam Sandler’s movies are subject to a lot of criticism, which is justified most of the time. Though while there is a side of the star that does whimsical comedies with bad jokes, there is a great actor in him. Hustle, the sports drama, is another where the actor in him shines.

The movie, which is set around the NBA, follows Stanley (Sandler), a former basketball scout who tries to revive his career. In the hopes of doing so, he picks up a talented player with a past from overseas, and helps him try and make it to the top.

The film’s trailer and teaser hints at a sports drama that would be captivating and touching, while at the same time being fueled with Rocky style montages about training and hardwork. Adam Sandler has previously done a number of movies related to sports, but this one dials back on the humour and delivers a more realistic touch.

The film is written by Taylor Materne and Will Fetters and is helmed by Jeremiah Zagar. LeBron James and Maverick Carter, two people who know their way around basketball are part of the film’s team of producers, which also includes Joe Roth, Allen Covert and Sandler.

While Sandler takes the lead, the movie also co-stars Utah Jazz player Juancho Hernangómez. Hustle also stars Queen Latifah, Ben Foster and Robert Duvall. The movie also features a number of basketball players from the past and presen such as Anthony Edwards, Trae Young, Kyle Lowry, Jordan Clarkson, Doc Rivers, Kenny 'The Jet' Smith and Mark Jackson.

Zak Mulligan handles the camera while the film has music by Dan Deacon. The film has received mostly positive reviews from critics and fans. The film is now available to stream on Netflix.
