Groot became an instant favourite following its introduction in Guardians of the Galaxy and Baby Groot kept the fandom going. Now Guardians of the Galaxy’s director James Gunn confirms that the TV series surrounding Baby Groot will be released some time in 2022.
The confirmation came from Gunn via his Twitter handle, after a fan asked him if he could confirm the news about a release of I am Groot in 2022. The director simply replied, “I can confirm”.
The new show, which will be based on the famous talking tree, will be a series of animated shorts that will follow Baby Groot on his many galactic adventures across the universe.
The show was first announced on Disney+ Day last month, but there is still no update on whether Vin Diesel, who has played the character in the movies, will return as Groot. The animation style for the series is said to be photo-realistic.
The Guardians of the Galaxy gang have not had any specific content release since 2017. Now fans can look out for the release of I am Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, both hitting in 2022.
While nothing is known about the premise of the show, it can be expected to be a prequel, considering that the talking tree was a teenager in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.
