‘I chose Citadel because it’s truly a global show’: Priyanka Chopra gets candid about her upcoming Prime Video series with Richard Madden

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is all set to be seen in Amazon Prime Video's upcoming action-spy thriller web series titled Citadel. Priyanka co-stars with Game of Thrones fame actor Richard Madden in the show. The cast and crew of Citadel kickstarted their global promotional tour by hosting an Asia-Pacific media event in Mumbai, India in early April. 

Back in 2016, the actress had mentioned in an interview that after Quantico, she won’t take up another TV show. While interacting with a closed group of media persons, Priyanka Chopra shared what made her change her decision to return to the long-format show and say ‘Yes’ to Citadel.

Priyanka explained, “I think Citadel ko maine isiliye choose kiya kyunki yeh ek aisa show hai jo truly sach mein bohot global hai. Toh show ki kahaani yeh hai ke har desh ka apna intelligence (department) hota hai jaise CIA ho gaya, MI6 ho gaya. Duniya thodi si aage badh chuki hai aur duniya ne decide kiya ke intelligence jo hota hai usko share karna chahiye kyunki poore humanity ka benefit hona chahiye. Deshon ko ek dusre se secrets nahi rakhna chahiye. Toh ham uske sabse top jasoos hain – iss Citadel ke. (I think I chose Citadel because it’s the kind of show that is truly very global. The show’s story revolves around the fact that every country has its own intelligence (department) like CIA or MI6. The world has grown and taken a leap and they’ve decided that intelligence should be shared so that the entire humanity gets benefitted. Countries should not keep secrets from each other. And we (referring to the characters played by her and Richard Madden) are the top spies of Citadel.)”

Further talking about the show, Priyanka added that Citadel spies can be present in any country across the globe. “Jo Citadel hai, who kisi bhi desh mein ho sakta hai. Toh India mein aapka neighour... ho sakta hai ki woh Citadel ka jasoos ho. Africa mein, kisi desh mein kahin pe koi chai bana raha ho, woh jasoos ho sakta hai. So it’s a very interesting world jo ekdam global tareeke se kabhi bhi nahi attempt kiya gaya hai, especially Television pe toh kabhi bhi nahi attempt kiya hai. Yeh original franchise hai and yeh bohot exciting baat hai ke mere shoulders pe (yeh show hai) aur mujhe itna bada mauka mila (So in India, it’s a possibility that your neighbour can be a Citadel spy. Somebody making tea in a country in Africa can also be a Citadel spy. So it’s a very interesting global world which has never been attempted before, especially on Television. This is an original franchise and it’s extremely exciting for me to have the opportunity to shoulder a global show like this.).”

Well, we already know that Citadel will have multiple installments. The Indian installment stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as protagonists. The first two episodes of Citadel will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from April 28, 2023.
