Will Smith has apologised to comedian Chris Rock for punching him at the Oscars, saying he was out of line and embarrassed. The actor took to Instagram to express himself, stating he would officially like to apologise to Chris. He was both out of line and incorrect. Smith is embarrassed, and his actions do not reflect the guy he aspires to be. In a world of love and generosity, violence has no place, the actor wrote.
In his further apology note, Smith went on to say that violence is poisonous and harmful in all of its manifestations. His behaviour at the Academy Awards was both terrible and inexcusable. Jokes about his health are expected at work, but one regarding Jada's illness was too much for him to handle, and he reacted emotionally.
In addition, he expressed regret to the academy for slapping comedian Chris Rock. His note read that he expressed his regret to the Academy, the show's producers, all of the attendees, and everyone watching across the world. He also expressed his regret to the Williams and King Richard families. Smith remarked that he is very sorry that his actions have marred what has otherwise been a wonderful adventure for all of them.
The actor concluded by writing, "I am a work in progress."
Will Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock on the stage after becoming enraged at the latter's remark about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. At first, Smith was laughing, but Jada appeared to be disturbed by the prank. Smith then proceeded to punch Rock on the stage.
A few minutes after the incident, Smith was named Best Actor at the Oscars. He also apologised for his behaviour during his acceptance speech. The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles hosted the 94th Academy Awards.
