Puja is round the corner and Bengalis across the world have geared up their biggest religious festivity with full enthusiasm. The Bengali film industry banks heavily on the Durga Puja releases. This year, Srijit Mukherji-Dev's Tekka, Mithun Chakraborty’s Shastri and Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Bohurupi will be dropped.
This year, distributor and the owner of Ajanta Cinema, Satadeep Saha, had a special gift for the Bengalis. The old and majestic Globe Cinema Hall is coming back with new decorations. Satadeeptold usthat this was a Puja gift to cinema lovers.
The new multiplex will open its doors on Sunday. It will screen films like Tekka, Bahurupi, Shahstri, Stree 2, and Tumbbad. Dev and Srijit Mukherjee will sell the tickets in the theater on Sunday. The 19th-century theatre was modern compared to its time and mostly screened foreign films. Satadeepsaid that it will be the same gorgeous in 2024 and will screen films in different languages.
Satadeep told the media, “It has two screens. That means it will be a multiplex. One screen has 239 seats and another has 197 seats.’ In the old theater, the screen was 70 mm. He said that there is no scope to have such a large screen today. The screen size is comparatively smaller. However, it is larger than the other halls. The price of the tickets is also lower than at the other halls.
On the wooden door, ‘Globe Cinema’ is written with lights. The red and white neon lights’ logo will attract everybody’s attention. Dim lights are paneled over the door. On one side, there are seating and food arrangements. The red-carpeted staircase will lead you to the red velvet chairs. Satadeep said that the city eagerly awaited the hall to open.
Many celebrated cinema halls closed down in Kolkata. Amid these, why such a step? Satadeep joked, “The cinema hall beside my house will get closed! If it is open, I can come daily and watch films.’ Then he became serious and said, “I am involved with the entertainment industry. I have no life outside this. Hence, my heart broke when several halls shut down. I took the responsibility so that Globe does not get forgotten.” But not only Globe, but Satadeepis also opened a number of cinema halls in the suburbs like Amtala.
