The trailer of Idli Kadai, was released by the makers on social media on Saturday. The drama feature marks Dhanush’s fourth directorial, and he will be starring in the film as well. Dhanush’s previous directorial, Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavaku Enmel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK), have offered different genres of storytelling, and with Idli Kadai, Dhanush narrates a story on going back to roots. Idli Kadai: How Dhanush’s drama is going to be one returning to roots
Idli Kadai is an upcoming Tamil film starring Dhanush in the lead role. The actor also doubles up as filmmaker. The trailer of the film was recently released, and Idli Kadai promises to be a feel-good drama about simplicity and embracing the roots.
The trailer of the film dictates the tone of the story, and we see how Dhanush, who has always managed to convince his audience about being one among them and a commoner coming from nothing, has done it once again with Idli Kadai. After playing a convincing beggar in his last film Kuberaa, Dhanush is a man of culinary expertise in Idli Kadai. It is no secret that Dhanush had always aspired to be a cook, and had made his characters to be one, be it culinary graduate Prabhu from NEEK or his fried rice stall cook in Raayan. So, with Idli Kadai too, Dhanush is a man who knows the right proportions of spices to make a tasty meal. But when he goes back to his old idli stall run by his father, the character he plays, Murugan, is determined to bring back to his glory. He is met with an affluent opponent (played by Arun Vijay).
Dhanush has done this before, but only in a different milieu. Be it his civil engineer Raghuvaran in Velaiilla Pattadhari who faces a wealthy corporate opponent, or underdog Anbu of Vada Chennai who rises to be the deciding pawn in a gangster war. Even his Thiru from Thiruchitrambalam, a normal food delivery man, who oozes with relatability of everyday mundanity. So, with Idli Kadai, it is all about how Dhanush delivers a convincing story of an underdog. However, the trailer has set the tone of the film to be that of a feel-good drama.
