In the 1950s, Julia Child (Meryl Streep) moves to Paris and attends the renowned culinary school, Le Cordon Bleu, to learn French cuisine. Despite facing several obstacles, she publishes a book, ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’. Meanwhile, in 2002, Julie Powell (Amy Adams), a New Yorker, who is passionate about cooking, decides to attempt all the recipes from Julia's book. Juile’s love for cooking may even inspire you to pick up the knife and polish your chopping skills.

Streep bagged a Golden Globe for her performance as Julia in the movie.

The Hundred-Foot Journey (Sony Liv)

After being forced to evacuate their home in Mumbai, Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) and his family settle in a village in southern France. There, they open a restaurant specialising in Indian cuisine, drawing the ire of Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), who runs a Michelin star restaurant right across the street. Initially, the Kadams face racism and prejudice; however, Hassan’s love for food impresses Madame Mallory. He even wins her restaurant a third Michelin star.

The movie is based on Richard Morais’ book of the same name. It also stars the late veteran actor Om Puri.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi (Tubi TV & Mubi)

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a Japanese-language American documentary film. It revolves around Jiro Ono, an 85-year-old sushi master and his older son, Yoshikazu. Jiro runs Sukiyabashi Jiro, which is the first sushi bar in the world to receive three Michelin stars. However, in 2019, it was removed from the Michelin Guide.

The documentary is directed by David Gelb, whose initial plan was to direct a movie on several celebrated sushi chefs.

Chef (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Lionsgate Play, Tata Play)

Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) quits his job and buys a food truck to start afresh. He drives the truck across the country and serves delicious Cuban sandwiches on the way. In the process, he reconnects with his son and divorced wife. Chef is a gentle reminder that the way to anyone’s heart is through good food.

In 2017, the film was remade into Hindi and had Saif Ali Khan playing the lead role.

Ratatouille (Disney+ Hotstar & Jio TV)

Remy, a young rat, aspires to become a renowned chef like his idol, the late chef Auguste Gusteau. He teams up with Alfredo Linguini, a kitchen worker, and they manage to dish out some incredibly delicious meals. With his exceptional culinary skills, Remy even manages to wow the stern food critic Anton Ego, and it is plot points like these that make Ratatouille a delightful watch for all ages.

It’s hardly surprising then that the movie received much critical acclaim for its screenplay and animation and won the Academy Award for the best animated feature.

The Big Night (Tubi TV)

The Big Night revolves around two Italian immigrant brothers who struggle to keep their restaurant, Paradise, afloat. It gives you a glimpse into the complexities of running a restaurant while taking you through an emotional roller coaster. The movie stars Stanley Tucci, Minnie Driver, Ian Holm and Isabella Rossellini in lead roles.

Chocolat (Netflix)

Vianne (Juilette Binoche), a young mother, arrives in a French village with her six-year-old daughter. She opens a small chocolaterie in this conservative town, much to the chagrin of the villagers. Soon, she becomes a subject of the age-old debate on good and evil, especially since she finds love in a pirate. The movie is based on Joanne Harris’ book of the same name.
