Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen with Pathaan is going through a tumultuous time as certain sections of society are unhappy with Deepika Padukone donning a saffron-coloured bikini in Beshram Rang song from the movie.
The controversy has gained momentum in the country, with several complaints are being filed against the stars and the makers involved every day, as per a report by Hindustan Times.
However, the latest to hit the headlines pertaining to the matter is by far the most alarming. It so happened that Ayodhya seer Paramans Acharya has threated to burn film’s lead actor Shah Rukh Khan alive.
A video clip of him openly threatening Shah Rukh Khan alive has surfaced in the media and has no gone viral all around. "Today we burnt his posters. The movie Pathhan has insulted the saffron colour. If I find jihadi Shah Rukh Khan anywhere, I will burn him alive,” Paramhans Acharya can be heard saying in the video.
Paramhans Acharya was recently in the news after he had announced Jal Samadhi unless India is declared a Hindu state. However, he recanted his statement later.
Earlier this month, Mahant Raju Das, the priest of Hanuman Garhi, encouraged people to burn down film theatres down where Pathaan will be released.
"Bollywood and Hollywood always attempt to make fun of the Sanatan religion. The way saffron has been used by Deepika Padukone as a bikini is hurtful to us. What was the necessity to wear saffron as bikini? I appeal to people to boycott the movie. Burn down the theatres where the movie will be screened because otherwise, they will not understand. You have to be evil to counter evil," Raju Das said in a statement, according to Hindustan Times.
Additionally, several complaints have been lodged against the Besharam Rang song from Pathaan for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments over Deepika Padukone's saffron bikini in the song.
The Besharam Rang row has created a political stir in the country with several BJP leaders, including Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra, demanding stern action be taken against the Beshraram Rang song.
However, opposition parties such as Congress, Trinamool Congress and leaders from many other political parties have called the ongoing controversy pointless.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel accused Bajrang Dal workers of extortion by wearing saffron. "There is a difference between wearing clothes (of certain colours) and embracing (thoughts associated with them). Saints and sadhus embrace (the colour saffron) after leaving their families and society (renouncing material world). Saffron is the colour of flames of fire and signifies sacrifice," Bhupesh Baghel said in a statement, according to the same report by HT.
Interstingly, at the Kolkata International Film Festival, Shah Rukh Khan called Pathaan ‘a very patriotic movie’ without really addressing all that is happening around the movie. He also touched upon all the negativity that ensues on social media.
The film’s female lead, Deepika Padukone, was recently seen unveiling the FIFA World Cup trophy on Sunday. She is the first-ever Indian actress to be invited for the coveted event.
