What's the plot of Ikkis?

Ikkis is a gripping war drama starring Agastya Nanda as Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, and Dharmendra as his father, Brigadier M.L. Khetarpal. The story follows Arun’s heroic feats during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War and his father’s emotional journey in 2001 to Pakistan, where he confronts the officer (Jaideep Ahlawat) responsible for his son’s death.

The film is based on the true story of 21-year-old Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who sacrificed his life in the 1971 war at the Battle of Basantar. The story unfolds through three main tracks: the 1971 war scenes where Arun fights in his tank, his romantic life with Kiran, and the 2001 storyline where a retired Brigadier M.L. Khetarpal visits Pakistan.

In 2001, the elderly Khetarpal comes face-to-face with Pakistani officer Khwaja Mohammad Naser, his son’s killer, sparking a deeply emotional confrontation with the harsh truths of war and personal loss. This film focuses on the human value of war, sacrifice, duty, and mutual respect between soldiers, rather than just the intense action.

Sriram Raghavan on Ikkis responses

Sriram Raghavan was surprised by the reception to his war drama Ikkis. Speaking at a Screenwriters Association (SWA) gathering, he shed light on the film's journey and said that he hopes that a wider audience will be able to enjoy its story through its OTT debut.

He told PTI, "We were quite baffled, actually, by the response after the film (Ikkis) came out. I hope people will watch the film at the click of the button (on OTT)." The director also said that if he were completely against Ikkis' ideals, he would not have made the film. For him, he explained, the boy's story alone would not have been enough, because he didn't know how to give it a proper form.

"So, when I first heard the story, it was the two stories in one and that is the complete thing that has got appealed to me. I don't know how it would have been otherwise," the director added.
