More about Ilaiyaraaja's biopic

The untitled biographical film is said to narrate the unwavering journey of musical genius and Tamil Nadu’s pride Ilaiyaraja, right from the early beginnings of his life. The movie will cover the composer’s evergreen music journey, spanning over 50 years. The legendary musician has composed around 7,000 melodious pieces, across several languages. Fans have been ecstatic after the film’s announcement, and cannot wait to see what the biopic would deliver!

R Balki’s shelved biopic of Ilaiyaraaja

For the unversed, it was earlier reported that renowned filmmaker R Balki might helm the biopic of ‘Isaignani’. It was during the promotions of Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Ghoomer that the film’s director R Balki shared that his dream was to make Ilaiyaraaja’s biopic with Dhanush. However, the project never took off, and Arun Matheswaran has now reportedly come on board as the director of the film. The film has been reportedly backed by Connekkt Media, which is the same production house who are also producing superstar Mohanlal’s pan-Indian film Vrushabha. If everything goes as planned, the film is expected to hit the theatres in 2025.

Dhanush’s upcoming projects

Meanwhile, Dhanush will be next seen in Sekhar Kammula's film, Kubera. The bilingual film also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles. Dhanush has also reportedly signed an untitled project with Amaran director Rajkumar Periasamy. Apart from that, Dhanush's two major directorial ventures – Raayan and Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam – will also be hitting the big screens this year.
