Amar Singh Chamkila’s film screening was held last evening. Sunny Kaushal, Shabana Azmi, and plenty of other stars graced the event and praised the Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra starrer. But what is so special about the film? Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila is an upcoming Netflix film based on the life of a Punjabi singer of the same name. Imtiaz Ali feels Diljit Dosanjh is Amar Singh Chamkila’s fan
In a chat with ETimes recently, Imtiaz shared his experience of working with Diljit Dosanjh for the first time. He shared that Diljit is very shy and conservative as a person. His talent, however, is not hidden from the world, the filmmaker expressed.
Further, Imtiaz Ali said that Diljit has been a fan of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila for a long time.
“Needless to say, he (Diljit) has brought a sense of Chamkila’s Punjab to the film. He had been Chamkila’s fan before I even knew about Chamkila. He knew all the songs of Chamkila. In fact, the first time I spoke about the film to him was over the phone. And the phone call spanned for hours,” the filmmaker said.

We know that Amar Singh Chamkila is an upcoming biographical drama film that explores the life of the famous musician Amar Singh Chamkila. Directed and co-produced by Imtiaz Ali, the movie features Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, with Parineeti Chopra playing his wife. This collaboration between Dosanjh, Chopra, and Imtiaz Ali is their first project together.
Amar Singh Chamkila tells the story of Chamkila, a highly influential Punjabi singer, and his singer wife, Amarjot. The film's music is composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics written by Irshad Kamil. Filming began in December 2022 and wrapped up in March 2023. The movie premiered in Mumbai, India, on April 8, 2024, and will be released on Netflix on April 12.
