The much-awaited trailer of Amar Singh Chamkila starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra has been released by the makers today. As expected, the trailer keeps you hooked to your screens till the end with its intriguing storyline, amazing performances, and the music of the film. The film, which is inspired by the real-life story of a Punjabi singer Chamkila sia ll set to release on April 12. Today, at the trailer launch event of the film, director Imtiaz Ali revealed why he chose to make a film on Chamkila.

Imtiaz said, "In the world of social media, you have this feeling that you are disconnected from a large mass of your country and the world, which lives in villages, which does not consume the same products as you. Sometimes I used to feel that I was getting more and more distant from those people whom we call the masses. And what is fascinating about Chamkila is that he was the entertainer of the masses. Those people that we often are unable to see, so that was very fascinating how was this man talking in the language that the masses understand. We all want to learn that language as a communicator, but this man knew it, people were crazy about it. People used to book their wedding according to the date he was available, so I wanted to experience that kind of world."
The filmmaker further added, "Secondly, this enigmatic life of a musician, who is very popular, challenges the norms of the society, and at the peak of his youth, he was killed, it has a very violent end. this happens everywhere in the world, unfortunately. This also has a very enigmatic character, so I also wanted to enter into that mindset and see what happens when Amarrjot and Chamkila, at 27, being so famous and hugely popular are also taking chances with their life and ultimately have very violent end."
For the unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila was Punjab's rockstar, a man of the masses, who rose to the heights of popularity in the 80s for his music, angering many on the way, which finally led to his assassination at the age of 27. He was the highest record-selling artist of his time.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila is all set to premiere on Netflix starting from April 12, 2024.
