Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film, set during the Partition, has welcomed a new cast member. Banita Sandhu will star opposite Diljit Dosanjh in the untitled production, which features Sharvari and Vedang Raina in the lead roles.

Film set in 1947 with parallel love stories

Set in 1947, the drama revolves around two love stories and the displacement caused by partition. As per a report in Mid Day, a first look at the couple came when Sandhu and Dosanjh were seen filming close to Mumbai's Asiatic Library.

An insider says the film has two love stories, and the first schedule started in August. Earlier seen in Ravi Chhabriya's Detective Sherdil, Sandhu made her debut in 2018's October, which starred Varun Dhawan. The source revealed to the tabloid that Ali cast Sandhu opposite Dosanjh after spotting her in the ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium) film.

Mumbai shoot completed; Punjab schedule ahead

The source went on to reveal that the majority of production has taken place in Mumbai up until this point, but the film will soon begin its next leg in Punjab. They are still awaiting the arrival of two more senior performers and there are a handful of people with whom Ali is negotiating for prominent roles in the story. The film will focus on the displaced families forced to leave their home states due to migration, in addition to the romance. The source claims that Dosanjh and Sandhu's story primarily unfolds in Mumbai and Punjab during the period immediately preceding partition.

Once the floods in Punjab subside, they plan to relocate to Amritsar in October. The Amritsar schedule is anticipated to delve deeply into the individual and communal turmoil of Partition.
