Before gaining fame after winning the reality show, Tamang worked as a constable for the Kolkata Police. He is now known for songs like Bir Gorkhali and Asare Mahinama. A native of West Bengal’s Darjeeling, Prashant Tamang was born on January 4, 1983. He lost his father early in life, which made him take up the job with the Kolkata Police. Tamang found his passion for music also after participating in the police orchestra.
