Filmmaker and composer Indraadip Das Gupta is preparing to direct his next feature film, Meghpeon, which is a homage to the Bengali maestro, Rituparno Ghosh. Starring Subhashree Ganguly, Jisshu S Sengupta and Abir Chatterjee, the film revolves around the Durga Puja festival and is set in the span of Mahalaya to Bijoya Dashami. Meanwhile, the trailer of his much anticipated film Bismillah has also been released recently. The film that features Subhashree, Riddhi Sen and Surangana Bandyopadhyay will be released on Janmashthami.

In the new film, the story will have Subhashree playing Titli, the bahu of an aristocratic family, who starts a homestay in their family property. The first guest at the homestay is Meghdoot, the character played by Abir Chatterjee. Meghdoot is a doctor, who is visiting town for work, when he puts up at the homestay. Titil’s husband is Rituparno, played by Jisshu. The story unfolds as a love triangle involving the three characters.

Apart from these three, the film will also have Rudroneel Ghosh, who plays a distant relative in charge of daily running of the household.

Indraadip has revealed that the film will have various references to Rituparno Ghosh and his works, including the films Titli and Unishe April. The classic song, ‘Piya Tora Kaisa Abhimaan’ from Raincoat will also be reimagined for the movie.

The story and music is by Indraadip, while the screenplay and dialogues are by Samragnee Bandyopadhyay. Subhankar Bhar will be behind the camera and Sujoy Dutta Roy is the editor. The film is produced by Kaleidoscope and EditFX Studios. The film is slated to release on May 30, 2023, which will mark the 10th death anniversary of Rituparno Ghosh.

Apart from Meghpeon, Indraadip has his plate full in the coming months. This August will see the release of his film, Bismillah, while he is also gearing up to start work on a musical for the production house, SVF. This project is supposed to star actor Anirban Bhattacharya. The filmmaker will start work on Meghpeon in October with a plan to release it next May.
