It emerged not very long ago that journalist, filmmaker and TV personality Indrajit Lankesh would direct his son Samarjit Lankesh's debut project. The project, as per reports, would be based on true incidents with Saanya Iyer or Bigg Boss Kannada fame slated to play the female lead.

And now, confirming these reports, Indrajit Lankesh and Co. have launched the title poster of the film. Titled Gauri, the film is described by the makers as 'message-oriented' with the same poster also revealing that it will include action, romance and other elements in it. Samarjit Lankesh, the debutant, will evidently be seen in a rugged action avatar with Saanya Iyer paired with him. 'Gauri' is said to be based on a true story.

Is the film named Gauri Lankesh?

The fact that the film is, indeed, based on a true story, and that it is titled Gauri, has now caused a few eyebrows to rise. Many would know that famed journalist and social activist Gauri Lankesh is Indrajit Lankesh's sister and that her tragic passing in 2017 still remains shrouded in mystery. Gauri Lankesh, for the unversed, was assassinated by three men on September 5, 2017, and her death was widely discussed and scrutinized not just in Karnataka but also in the national media and sections of global media.

So, with Indrajit Lankesh choosing to name his next directorial after his late sister and also revealing that it is inspired by real incidents, one wonders whether 'Gauri', the film, will have any traces of the real-life incident. Or, could the title simply mean a tribute to one of India's most highly regarded social crusaders?

'Gauri' to go on floors on August 31

Indrajit Lankesh and team Gauri have also disclosed that the film will be launched formally on August 31 with a muhurtha ceremony. Other reports have suggested that the shooting is likely to begin in the first week of September. AJ Shetty of Kabzaa fame will handle cinematography and the combination of Jassie Gift and Chandan Shetty will score the music.
