Director M Padmakumar’s Pathaam Valavu has finally zeroed in on a release date. The movie, which stars National Award-winner Suraj Venjaramoodu and Indrajith Sukumaran playing a convict and a police officer, respectively, will hit theatres in May.
Pathaam Valavu, which is written by Night Drive’s scriptwriter Abhilash Pillai, is based on a true incident that happened in Kerala a few years ago. The movie has Suraj playing a convict who is let out on parole but fails to return after his parole period expires. Indrajith essays the role of the cop who leads a team to track down the missing criminal.
The movie, which also has Ajmal Ameer, Swasika, Major Ravi and Aditi Ravi in pivotal roles, is touted to be a family thriller. In an earlier interview with us, Padmakumar, who had directed Joju George’s Joseph and Mammootty’s Mamangam, said that Pathaam Valavu is an emotional family thriller. “It’s also a fictionalised take on an incident that happened in the State. The movie is told in a non-linear way; it keeps shuttling between the present and flashback portions,” the filmmaker explained.
The current date of release of the film is May 13. Incidentally, Indrajith and Pathaam Valavu scriptwriter Abhilash had previously collaborated in Night Drive, which released in theatres earlier this month. The actor had also played a cop in the Vysakh directorial.
Abhilash in an earlier interview told us that when he had initially approached Indrajith to essay the role of a police officer in Pathaam Valavu, the Kurup actor’s first response was that he doesn’t want to play more cop roles because he had already done a few in consecutive films. But halfway through Pathaam Valavu’s narration, Indrajith agreed to be part of the movie, which had completed its shoot last year.
