Swastika Mukherjee’s Shrimati was released on July 8. Indrani Halder’s Kuler Achaar was released on July 15 – a week after the release of Arjunn Dutta’s family drama. As soon as the SVF’s film was released, Swastika took to her social media alleging that SVF is instrumental in sidelining her film from Kolkata theatres to showcase their new release.

On her social media, the actress alleged, “Distributors decide which film to run. A new filmmaker does not stand a chance and neither does a film that has a woman as the central character. Even if the film gets good reviews, the film will be taken down from prime shows.” As per her allegations, her film Shrimati had 17 shows in the first week and in the second week, when Kuler Achaar was released, the number went down to just four shows. The actress also blamed the production house SVF pulled strings to suppress Shrimati to make way for their film, Kuler Achaar. SVF is also the distributor of Shrimati.

Meanwhile, Kuler Achaar-actress Indrani told Anandabazar that Swastika’s allegation is, in fact, helping the promotion of her film. She said, “I am having a big release after five years. I thank Swastika for her favour. Her post helped our promotion.”

Indrani also added in the interview that Swastika is close to SVF and she should take it up directly with the management. She also said after the craze of the first week, the film will sustain the second week only if the film is good. “It will be wrong to claim that one film is replaced due to the other,” said Indrani.

Shrimati and Kuler Achaar are both women-oriented films. In the latter, Indrani plays the character of a mother-in-law who gets influenced by her bouma to go back to her previous surname of her family.
