Indrani, a film written, directed and produced by first-time filmmaker Stephen, is being proclaimed as the first ever supergirl film in Indian cinema. Written, directed and produced by Stephen, the film features Yaaneea Bharadwaj, Kabir Duhan Singh, Franitha Jijina, Garima Kaushal and Shataf Figar in key roles. The film’s shoot commenced earlier this year and the character posters of Yaaneea, Kabir Duhan Singh and Shatif Figar in addition to a first glimpse were launched recently.
The film now has a release date. Indrani will simultaneously release in five languages – Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil – on October 27. Indrani has undergone a lot of pre-production work for over two years and in addition to the supergirl angle, the film will have a time-travel dimension as well. The makers say Telugu audiences will something new to see in a time-travel film after Balakrishna’s cult classic Aditya 369, that released three decades ago.
The writer-director-producer is confident Indrani will be a talking point among many after its release. At the time of the launch, he had stated that Yaaneea was just apt for the titular character and she even underwent training in martial arts for the projects. Indrani is being made on a lavish budget with an impressive technical team and the makers feel audiences, particularly kids, will get to watch something they would generally only witness in a Hollywood superhero film.
The technical team of Indrani includes editor SB Uddhav and cinematographer Charan Madhavaneni. Sai Kartheek is on board for the music with action sequences being handled by Premsun. Ravikumar Gurram is the art director and Stanley Suman Babu is the executive producer. The makers haven’t yet decided on their streaming partner. Indrani will be high on VFX and may have to undergo a lot of post-production work after the completion of its principal shoot.
