The movie, which has been screened in several international film festivals, will drop on OTT platforms on July 6
Malayalam actor Indrans has been on a roll lately. The veteran, who has found a resurgence in his career with acclaimed roles in movies such as Aalorukkam and Veyilmarangal, is back with another stellar performance in director Ashok R Kalitha’s Velukkakka Oppu Ka.
The movie, which was shot in Palakkad last year following the COVID-19 protocols, has Indrans playing a 78-year-old illiterate man, who has only learnt a few alphabets for the purpose of his signature. The social drama aims to send across a message of taking care of elder citizens in the society. Indrans’ titular character is a daily-wage labourer who ekes out a living.
Pashanam Shaji, Shebin Baby, Uma, Raju Cherthala and Ayan Jeevan are also part of the movie, scripted by Sathyan MA.
Velukkakka Oppu Ka is set to release on NeeStream, First Shows, Saina Play and BookMyShow. The film had earlier been screened at various film festivals including Rajasthan International Film Festival, Paris Film Festival, AND Crimson Horizon International Film Festival.
In an earlier interview, Indrans had talked about how he was moved by the film’s story when Ashok, who had previously acted with him in movies, narrated the script.
Meanwhile, Indrans has also completed the shoot of Rojin Thomas’ #Home, which has him playing a technologically-challenged father along with Sreenath Bhasi. The comedy, which was also shot during the pandemic, is produced by Vijay Babu.
The State Award-winning actor is also part of Nithya Menen and Vijay Sethupathi-starrer 19(1)(a), which will also be a direct-to-OTT release.
