Another Shondaland creation is making its way onto Netflix after Bridgerton. The streaming platform has dropped the trailer for Inventing Anna, created by Shonda Rhimes, which is set to be a nine-episode series. The series features Emmy winner Julia Garner in the titular role as a socialite-cum-con artist who steals from the New York elite. A journalist investigates how Anna Delvey persuaded New York's elite that she was a German heiress. This film is based on a genuine story.

In Inventing Anna, a journalist, Vivian Kent (Anna Chlumsky), with a lot on his plate, examines the story of Anna Delvey, the Instagram-famous German heiress who stole the hearts (and the money) of New York's social scene. Is Anna, however, New York's most notorious con artist or merely the new face of the American dream? As Anna awaits trial and our reporter races against the clock to find out who Anna Delvey is, they create a dark, comic love-hate relationship.

Jessica Pressler's piece How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People in New York Magazine inspired the series.

Garner plays a young woman in her mid-twenties with an unmistakable European accent who takes New York by storm. Anna, whether a smart entrepreneur or a master con artist, generates loyalty, compassion, hatred, and obsession in her victims, all while leaving an emotional trail.

While Chlumsky will be seen as a reporter attempting to save her job by finding the proper article. Anna Delvey's story is her golden ticket, and she'll go to any length to obtain it. But, as she works on the Anna tale, she encounters an unexpected stumbling block: Anna herself. Vivian becomes increasingly attracted to Anna as she pursues the truth about her.

Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox, Alexis Floyd, Arian Moayed, Anders Holm, Anna Deavere Smith, Jeff Perry, and Terry Kinney also feature in the series.

David Frankel has directed the first episode, which is set to stream on Netflix on February 11, 2022.
