Netflix’s soon to be released feature film Qala will mark the onscreen debut of late actor Irrfan’s son, Babil. Co-starring with him is Tripti Dimri, whose role in Bulbbul received immense appreciation from both viewers and critics, and popular Bengali actor Swastika Mukherjee.

Riding on her success with Bulbbul, the film will mark actor Tripti Dimri’s return to Netflix. Babil made the big announcement on Instagram on April 10, giving his followers glimpses into his role in Qala.

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma is all set to produce Qala through her production house Clean Slate Films, which she started with her brother Karnesh. The film is directed by Anvita Dutt, who also helmed Netflix’s Bulbbul.

Babil, a student of films and acting in London, had already revealed his plans of entering the film industry earlier this year. Responding to a fan’s query about whether Babil will follow in his father’s footsteps, the young actor shared that he was going to start looking into offers once he graduates in May. It seems like Babil has finally made up his mind.

The plot of the film follows a daughter in desperate search of maternal love. Director of International Original Film for Netflix India, Srishti Behl Arya, shared that the online streaming mega platform was proud to present such an “intricate tale of a woman”. The new film is in line with the vision of the production house that seeks to unshackle women.

Sharing his skepticism about the word ‘getting launched’, Babil took to Instagram to say that he wants his audience to launch off their seat while watching the film and not any individual actor.

Adding to the anticipation for the release of Qala, Netflix recently released a teaser presenting behind-the-scenes raw footage from the ongoing shoot of the movie.

Bollywood actor Irrfan died in April 2020 after battling cancer. The recently held Filmfare Awards witnessed Babil accepting Irrfan’s award for Best Actor for his role in Angrezi Medium.
