Ever since Priya Prakash Varrier winked her way into fans’ hearts in Oru Adaar Love, the actress has been keeping herself busy juggling multiple projects. Priya is currently gearing up for the release of her next Malayalam film, 4 Years, a romantic campus drama which will see her share the screen with Sarjano Khalid. The trailer of the film seems to hint at Priya and Sarjano’s characters in a volatile relationship with each other. In a recent interview, the actress cleared the air about whether or not the upcoming film revolves around a ‘toxic’ love story.

In conversation with Jango Space TV, Priya referred to the scene in the trailer where her character is seen telling Sarjano that she has her own life to live, rather than trying to make him a better person. The actress said that she did not think it amounted to any sort of toxicity, and it was a common conversation in most relationships.

No one in relationships cannot be happy and positive all the time, and some shades of toxicity may come into relationships by accident, when the people involved become too emotional. “In the film, we have never tried to glorify a toxic relationship. It’s just an honest portrayal of the ups and downs, and conflicts and complications found in every relationship”, she said.

According to Priya, as the characters in the film were young people, they were on a journey to build their lives. Them becoming partners, their relationship and love story, and all the emotions that came with it, were all a part of that journey.

Priya went on to say Sarjano’s character, Vishal, is someone who can become emotional, frustrated and confused at times. Anger is an emotion that everyone had, and it was unfair to label wayward outbursts as toxicity.

4 Years will be released in theatres on November 25.
