In his decade-long journey as an actor in the movies, Ayushmann Khurrana became the poster boy for certain genres of films. The multihyphenated actor has appeared in films about sperm donation, erectile dysfunction, male gynecologists, and other topics. After a few commercial failures, Ayushmann now wants to take a break from those films and explore other genres as well. However, the actor mentioned that he would work on his genre of movies for OTT.
During a group media interaction, Ayushmann spoke about his 10-year journey in the film industry, saying, "As an actor, somehow I'm synonymous with a certain genre. So it's very flattering and overwhelming to know that. But, at the same time, I'm still learning and evolving, especially in the last few years, and I want to make more films that are more diverse and have a higher entertainment quotient than just messaging. I may have to give up on taboo subjects for a while, but I can't give up on quirks."
The actor further said, "You have to go for subjects that are slightly more niche and slightly more vocal. It has to be on OTT; it can't be theatrical because I think the intelligent progressive audience has already shifted to OTT, and they really need to be excited enough to come out to theatres if it has to be the experience."
When asked if he is keen on taking risks by foraying into long-format shows on OTT, Ayushmann revealed, "Anything that excites me is different for me and is challenging in terms of subject because OTT enjoys the ability to take bigger risks in terms of subject, so that would be great."
Has the actor been offered any web series? To which he replied, "Yeah, a lot of them, but I still want to be more excited about these concepts."
Meanwhile, on the work front, Ayushmann will next be seen in An Action Hero, directed by debutant Anirudh Iyer. The film is set to hit the big screen on December 2, 2022.
