The filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who won a National Award for the Best Director for the film Shahid, is now planning for a sequel to Rajkummar Rao's drama. The director took to social media and shared an image of him, dressed up as a lawyer asked fans if they would like to see a sequel to the biographical movie.
Mehta wrote in his tweet: "How about a #Shahid sequel?" Check out the tweet below:
This has got all fans excited. Many replied to the tweet saying they would like to watch the sequel. One of the fans of the movie seems to be the popular Crime Patrol host and actor, Anup Soni. He commented on the tweet saying: "Bilkul, neki aur poochh poochh." His comment tops the rest on the thread of tweets.
Calling the film, Shahid 'classic', one of the users wrote that it would be a great idea to have the film's sequel, provided it maintains the standard and quality of the original movie. While most fans said it is a great idea, some also said it is best to let it be as is. One of the users commented saying, "#Best should always remain a unique one. Because every piece of art of yours is unique on its own. So according to me, no sequel but need another unique creativity." Some even said that he might face lot of problems if he plans to release it in 'today's scenario'.
Meanwhile, Shahid, directed by Mehta stars Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Prabhleen Sandhu and Baljinder Kaur appear in supporting roles, apart from Rao in the lead role as Azmi. The film is based on the life of the lawyer and human rights activist, Shahid Azmi who was killed in 2010. Written by Sameer Gautam Singh, the film is produced by Anurag Kashyap and Sunil Bohra in association with Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under the banner of UTV Spotboy. The film also won the lead actor, Rao a National Award for Best Actor at the 61st National Film Awards. It premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival's City to City programme and was later released in theatres in India in October of 2013.
