Suresh Gopi’s tentatively titled film SG251, directed by Rahul Ramachandran, is touted to be a thriller based on drug mafia
During a recent press meet for the upcoming Malayalam crime thriller Garudan, actor Suresh Gopi was asked about his next project, which is tentatively titled SG251, as there are rumours about the film being shelved. The actor responded, stating that the Rahul Ramachandran-directed film had been put on hold due to issues with the producers, and the makers are currently in talks with new producers. He also clarified that his upcoming projects, Ottakomban and SG251, have not been cancelled, and will definitely be released soon.
Director Rahul Ramachandran issues a statement about SG251
Interestingly, the director of SG251, Rahul Ramachandran, has now taken to his Facebook (now Meta) page to issue a statement regarding the film’s delay. In his post, he confirmed that SG251 is currently not backed by any producers. Adding to that, Rahul stated that certain industry insiders are trying to hinder the film’s progress. However, he is determined not to let that happen.
Dismissing all the speculations about the film being shelved, the director said, “What Suresh Gopi sir said during the press meet for Garudan that was held the other day is indeed true. Our SG251 does not have a producer as of now. It is true that we have been facing production issues for the past couple of days. Ever since the release of this press meet video, I felt the need to provide clarification in response to the numerous messages, calls, and discussions I have been receiving. I would like to address these queries with some clarifications.”
The director’s remarks referencing Mahabharata
Quoting references of Ashwatthama from the Mahabharata, the director took a dig at the ‘people who are trying to sabotage’ his project. He compared his ill-wishers to Ashwatthama, who emerged victorious by defying the rules of the war.
Furthermore, the director stated that he will indeed succeed in crossing all the obstacles, and that the makers of the film are in discussions with potential producers who understood the budget, expressing faith in completing the project soon.
